Commercial Construction Levy
The levy ($2 per week per member working in the commercial construction area) will provide for those members who lose pay due to industrial action taken by other Unions. This action was prompted by a dispute at the Queensland Childrens Hospital in 2012 which saw over 100 Plumbers Union members without work for eight weeks.
The levy will be applied to the fees of all commercial construction members (members working under EB7 or second tier agreements) and will be applied from 1 October 2013.
Members working in the local and state government sectors, out of trade members and those in the residential sector will be exempt from paying the levy but in turn will not be able to access the Fund.
